SERVICES---------------------

VISION THERAPY
Vision Therapy (VT) develops, improves, and enhances people's
visual performance. Nearly 80% of all information we receive is
visual, therefore, efficient visual skills are a critically
important part of learning, working, and playing. A person can
have 20/20 vision and still have difficulty with important visual
skills such as:

Tracking, Focus and Fixation
Peripheral Vision
Eye Teaming
Depth Perception
Visual Perception
Maintaining Attention
Eye-Hand Coordination
Common signs or symptoms of vision problems can include frequent
headaches or eye strain, blurring of distance or near vision,
avoidance of close work or visually demanding tasks, double
vision, difficulty changing focus, dizziness, and much more.

Dozens of studies involving thousands of children and adults
demonstrate that when visual skills are enhanced through VT, then
learning is easier, reading levels rise, and in some cases, IQ
scores have increased.

Vision therapy is a program of specifically designed vision
exercises using various equipment and lenses to alleviate vision
problems permanently. We offer a no-cost vision screening which
can determine whether vision therapy will be helpful. It checks
eye alignment, focusing, and eye movement.

Our vision therapy program is generally four months long with
weekly office visits. Each visit lasts approximately 40 minutes.
We work on vision therapy exercises in the office and go over
homework for the following week. Home vision therapy consists of
a few exercises that are done five days a week and should not
take more than 20 minutes a day.

OPTOMAP RETINAL EXAM
Our Optomap Retinal Exam can give you a much larger view (200
degrees) of the back of the eye - your retina - than conventional
eye exams. The images can be taken without dilating your pupils,
which for some patients, can be uncomfortable.
The image of your retina can be viewed and used immediately by
your Doctor as opposed to dilation which takes 15 to 20 minutes.
The image that this provides your Doctor can help find problems
that may otherwise go undetected. This also allows the image to
be sent to a retinal specialist if needed.

Ultra-wide view of the retina
Comfortable and Quick Capture
Non-invasive
Provides permanent records for future comparison
Does not require dilation so you can resume normal activities
immediately

InfantSEE PROGRAM
The American Optometric Association and the Vision Care Institute
of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. have partnered to create
InfantSEE, a no-cost public health program developed to provide
professional eye care for infants nationwide. Dr. Curtis proudly
participates in the InfantSEE program, offering early detection
of potential eye and vision problems.
A baby's first visit to an optometrist should happen between 6
and 12 months of age. This is a critical time for eye and vision
development and early detection of any problems can help with
long term vision. During the eye exam, the infant will sit on his
or her parent's lap. Dr. Curtis uses different lights, toys, and
lenses to check that the infant's eyes are working together and
that there are no significant issues that will interfere with
proper vision development. Specially formulated eye-drops are
used to dilate the infant's pupils which afford Dr. Curtis a
better look inside the eye to ensure good health. Infants
generally find the eye exam painless and fun!

Did you know that 1 out of 10 children is at risk from
undiagnosed vision problems
56% of mothers and expectant mothers are not certain of when the
most critical age is for the development of eyesight
Check out their website here for further information -

LASIK (Laser-Assisted in-Situ-Keratomileusis)
Lasik uses a laser to reshape the cornea. It can be used to
correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. We work
with Pacific Laser Eye Center (PLEC) in Sacramento which uses the
new LADAR TRACKER radar eye tracking systems. This system uses
advanced laser beams capable of finer and more accurate
treatments than any other laser system available today. PLEC also
uses the CustomCornea wavefront technology to reduce optical
aberrations which can cause problems such as glare or halos
around lights. This technology customizes the laser procedure to
your individual eyes. The wavefront technology results in
superior vision which can sometimes mean better vision than you
previously had with glasses or contact lenses.
Dr. Yurko and Dr. Curtis work as a team with PLEC surgeons Dr.
Richard Meister and Dr. Douglas Cooper. At EyeOptics Optometry
Center, the doctors take careful pre-operative measurements which
are combined with measurements taken at PLEC to ensure the best
possible surgical results. Following surgery, Dr. Yurko and Dr.
Curtis will carefully monitor the healing process through
follow-up examinations.

When considering Laser Vision Correction, the most important
question to consider is where to have the procedure performed.
When you choose Pacific Laser Eye Center for this life changing
procedure, you are selecting an entire team of professionals from
the various fields of eye care. Your surgeon is one of the most
experienced in the region, selected by your local eye doctor for
experience, background and outcomes. Pacific Laser Eye Center has
also affiliated with UC Berkeley and Southern California College
of Optometry two of the nation's leading optometric institutions,
so you know we're staying on top of all the advances in the
complex procedure of laser eye surgery.

ON-SITE OPTICAL LABORATORY
At EyeOptics Optometry Center we offer an on-site optical
laboratory which allows us to custom make your glasses in as
little as twenty minutes. Our lab manager, Bill Barber, has been
cutting lenses to fit any frame since 1965. He has an extensive
knowledge of all of the different lens materials and coatings
available today and is more than willing to discuss the best
options for your visual needs.

DR. SHARON YURKO....

received her Bachelor's Degree of Arts from the University of
Arizona in 1972. She then received her Doctor of Optometry Degree
from the Southern California College of Optometry in 1985. She
bought her first practice in Hayward, California in 1990 and sold
it seven years later when she started EyeOptics Optometry Center
in Elk Grove. She lives with her husband, Steve, in Granite Bay.
They have two
grown children, Ryan 27, who is an optician at EyeOptics and
Katey who is a college student living
in San Luis Obispo.

DR. CHRISTY CURTIS....
is part-owner of EyeOptics Optometry Center.
She grew up in Elk Grove, CA, graduated from Elk
Grove High School and then went on to receive her Bachelors
Degree from Houghton College in New York. After four years of
intense study, Dr. Curtis graduated co-valedictorian from the
Southern California College of Optometry.
After graduating from optometry school, she moved back to her
hometown of Elk Grove. Beyond comprehensive eye exams, Dr. Curtis
has a special interest in children's vision, vision therapy and
sport vision. She is currently enrolled in the InfantSee Program
which provides free eye exams for infants 6-12 months of age.
Living with her husband, Jason Mizer, you might see her running
around the parks of Elk Grove training for a marathon, or perhaps
playing a game of soccer.
