After personally traveling in an fifth wheel for 5 years Charles Langdon opened
an RV service business in 1983. This first RV venture was done in the West
Sacramento KOA out of the back of his service/pick up truck. The business grew
rapidly and it became apparent that he was going to need a place to do business.
He rented a small warehouse with one roll-up door and began CVL RV. Within a
couple of years he had expanded to 3 service bays. In 1985, Charles came to
Rancho Cordova to visit a dismantler and saw a property available for rent. He
negotiated a lease on a new concrete tilt-up on So Sunrise. Charles had very
little capital so the expansion was financed by credit cards. Charles was still
doing mainly service and parts. Selling an occasional used RV. After the move
Charles thought that rentals would go hand in hand with the service business. At
one time he had approximately 40 units available for rent. One day around
January 1989 he received a call from a banker saying that a nearby RV dealer in
Rancho Cordova had closed their doors. He offered Charles an opportunity to
purchase their new RV's and he accepted. Now CVL had expanded to sell new RV's.
Charles had another opportunity present itself in 1990. An RV dealer in
Sacramento was retiring and Charles was offered their site for rent to open a
second location. Charles negotiated the deal and a second location was opened on
El Camino Blvd. in 1990. Charles quickly realized that running a second location
was a handful. That year interest rates Sky rocketed and the economy slowed and
after a year and a half of struggles everything was consolidated back to the
Sunrise location. He gained control of business and once again it prospered. It
was obvious that the space at Sunrise was inadequate to operate in. A temporary
sales lot was opened on Folsom Blvd. and hwy 50 in 1994. This alleviated the
space problem but made it difficult to do business with split locations. So
once again everything was consolidated back to Sunrise. Charles began to look
for another location that would fit the space requirements and also give the
business more visibility. In 1996 he started negotiations on the current
location. In May of 1998 construction was started and in July 1998 we opened the
doors of the new location as Folsom Lake RV. Our goal was to open the new store
with a friendly, warm feeling that make both customers and staff feel welcome.
Another benefit was the great freeway location.
