Helen Jones Gallery
2615 El Paseo ln, Sacramento, California 95821
Details:
Helen Jones Gallery has to be one of the most eclectic galleries
that Sacramento has to offer. To understand where this
eclecticism comes from, one only needs to get to know a little
about Helen herself.
Helen Jones is a native Sacramentan, who was married to her high
school sweetheart Gordon Jones, who later became a major league
baseball pitcher. Being the wife of a ball player took Helen
across the United States as well as Cuba and Venezuela. On those
adventures, she was afforded the opportunity to dance with Dezi
Arnez, sing with Keely Smith, and swim with Ester Williams.
Before starting Helen Jones Gallery in 1988, Helen worked for the
California Legislature, beginning as a messenger and retiring
thirty-one years later as Chief of Staff for Senator Waddie
Deddeh. Her greatest achievement, Helen says, has been the
rearing of her three successful children: Gary Jones who owns
ATV, a video production company in Sacramento; Greg Jones who is
a publishing consultant and is sought after in North America for
his circulation expertise; and Janet Berry who recently became
the first woman Chief Judge of the 2nd Judicial District Court of
Reno, Nevada.

A stroll through Helen Jones Gallery is always an adventure that
entices the eye and touches the emotions. The works of Italian
artist Luigi Stefano Cannelli, who in cooperation with California
State University Sacramento mounted that artist's first American
exhibit, vividly depeicts allegorical themes of the Renaissance,
Spanish master Jose Royo who creates dramatic impressionistic
portraits, and local artist Sergei Yatsenko all paint in a style
that hearkens back to the works of the old masters. Other local
artists include: Robert Wee, who captures with great detail in
oils northern California coastal and foothill scenes that have
garnered prizes in prestigious shows; Sergey Gritsak's landscapes
of local points of interest and waterways offer a meditative look
at the beauty in our natural surroundings through his masterwork
pastels; Jerianne Van Dijk, who works in watercolors to produce a
lush, dreamy quality in her work to convey a mood or a moment in
time since passed; and watercolorist Nancy Kaestner, whose
attention to detail brings her florals to life with a vibrancy
that one would swear they had been picked especially for them.
Russian transplant Yuroz and Croatian artist Zvonimir Mihanovic
convey pure emotion through their artwork. Yuroz's work is that
of simple beauty with romantic scenes of relationships in full
bloom punctuated with brilliant colors that dazzle and stir ones
senses. Mihaovic's resplendant scenes of small fishing boats on
placid waters relax and calm the viewer better than your best
aromatherapy candle.

If it's whimsy you are looking for, you will find it in the
works of Alexander Ivanov, whose unique linocuts are hand colored
with pigments only available in Russia, as well as the kinetic
wire sculptures from Paris, France by Vincent Magni, The cheerful
antics of the solid bronze frogs by the "World Famous Frogman",
Tim Coterill and the elegant "Beauty in Bronze" sculptures by
Tarkay.

Exclusive in Sacramento to Helen Jones Gallery is P. Buckley
Moss, whose prints depict American and Amish scenes in a
primative, stylized manner. It was by way of Moss and Helen's
sister, that owns a gallery in the Bay Area, that Helen was
introduced to the world of art and inspired Helen to open a
gallery of her own. Also exclusive, is premier maritime artist
John Stobart, Victorian artist Alan Maley, and British artist Roy
Woodard-Fairchild, whose serigraphs are rich, soft tapestries of
collage that tell a story that unfolds before ones eyes.

"It's not work", says Helen, when asked about her gallery."I
enjoy having the opportunity to enlighten the community about the
joys and wonders of art."
