The Retreat at Thunder Ridge
14688 County Road 240 Durango, Colorado 81301
Suite/Unit: N/A
Details:
The Retreat at Thunder Ridge is a spectacular 14,000 square foot log “Lodge”, nestled high in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of SW Colorado. It sits on 172 acres of meadows, with Spruce, Pine and Aspen forest. Located just 14-miles northwest of the old mining town of Durango, it is easy to get to, and well worth the trip when you arrive! Owned and operated by Laura and Lew Webb, the lodge was purpose built to accommodate a great variety of Evangelical Christian retreats, conferences and gatherings, so sit back, relax, and take a look around our website as you become familiar with… The Retreat at Thunder Ridge Thunder Ridge has eight guest rooms, designed to accommodate a variety of group configurations. Six of the eight beautifully decorated and spacious rooms have a King bed, plus a bunk, so depending on the group make-up, each can very comfortably serve four guests. Two rooms have only a King bed. Each of the eight rooms has its own nicely appointed bathroom with a shower, and all but two have an outside covered deck. Many use this as a place to enjoy their morning coffee, or do their devotionals. The lodge has wonderful indoor “common areas” designed for large or small group discussions, or just relaxation and recreation. Sitting in front of a crackling fire in the evenings is just what the doctor ordered to calm the spirit and open the heart! In addition, the large game room has a piano, pool table, large felt game table, checkers, chess & backgammon boards, big screen TV and library. Our “Cowboy Bar” is perfect for making Root Beer Floats, or just hanging out to talk. Also, the lodge is equipped with high speed wireless for your laptop. Outside, we have a beautiful Pool (rare at 8,000 feet!) with lots of room on the deck to lounge in the sun on one of many chaise lounges or patio chairs. The pool is a “sport” type, so there is a basketball hoop and volleyball net available for those inter-group “rivalries” to be worked out! You may also enjoy the covered Hot Tub that looks out over the pasture in front of the lodge, particularly enjoyable when it’s snowing! The large lower level deck overlooks the Horse Shoe Pit as well as the pasture and forest beyond. At Thunder Ridge, food service for our “Full Service Plan” guests is one of our favorite subjects, as your hostess, Laura, is an incredible cook, with a heart and eye for hospitality details like none other! Coffee service begins at 6:30 AM, followed by three mouth watering meals served in our spacious dining room, or, depending on the weather, outside on the dining deck. With stunning views of the surrounding rimrock, forest and pasture, eating on the deck is always a hit with our guests! Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all cooked fresh, and with lots of love, each day in our chef’s delight kitchen. And did I mention dessert? Just don’t plan on coming to Thunder Ridge to lose any weight! At each meal, simply arrive in the dining room when it’s time to eat, enjoy the food and time with your lodge mates, and then be on your way to whatever your organizer has planned next. We’ll bus and wash the dishes, so there’s never any KP duty for our Full Service guests! Often, particularly for those up early for coffee, and during evening meals, the abundant local wildlife seems to go on display for our visitors. Depending on the season, it is not uncommon to see Rocky Mountain Mule Deer, Yellowstone Elk and Merriam’s Turkeys using the pasture during a single meal time! More infrequently seen, but by no means uncommonly so, we also have Black Bears, Coyotes and Bobcats making appearances. And though certainly more rare to see, there are times when Moose, Lynx and Mountain Lions are present as well. In any case, mealtime at the lodge is always a special experience, and no one leaves hungry! With 172-acres to roam, getting out and spending some time in the woods and fields is not only invigorating, but can be very spiritually uplifting as well. For the less adventurous, we have a trail to walk, and swings or benches set up in various places to sit. You’re free, however, to roam through the woods, and find a stump or log to sit on when you want to rest or pray. The woods are good for the soul!!! So, come spend some time with us at The Retreat at Thunder Ridge.
